Mai 1936 Eröffnung des nichtzionistischen Übersee-Gruppenwanderer Lehrgutes Groß Breesen; im Gegensatz zu anderen Lagern ist Groß Breesen nicht an jüdische Organisationen gebunden, war jedoch stark geprägt vom Centralverein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens (C.V., assimiliert, liberal, national)
1936-1939 Curt „Bo“ Bondy Lagerleiter und pädagogischer Leiter, auf Bitten von Leo Baeck; von vielen ‚Groß-Breesenern‘ wurde er als charismatische Persönlichkeit, der sie viel zu verdanken haben, verehrt. Unterstützt wurde er von Ernst Cramer, einem älteren Praktikanten.

Januar1966 verfasst Walter Hattenbach einen Bericht für den Groß Breesen Rundbrief Nr. 21:
„In the fall of 1936 I left for the United States. I went immediately to Blanchester, a small Ohio town, with a population of 3 000, about 50 miles north east of Cincinnati. Here I attended the local High School. In 1938, my parents and brothers also came to the States, and our family settled in Cincinnati.
In order to continue my schooling, I went to work during the daytime and attended the University of Cincinnati at night. My job during the day was as stock boy (Lagerist) at one of Cincinnati’s largest department stores. In 1941 I was made an assistant department manager.
Shortly afterwards in ’42 I was inducted into the Army. I ended up on a little godforsaken island called „Galapagos“, an island of volcanic rock and dust without vegetation and drinking water, located in the Pacific 1000 miles off the coast of South America. This barren „rock“ served as an A i r Force base to protect the Panama Canal. Here I spent almost two years of my 3 1/2 years army-career.
In early 1945 I was sent back to the United States to attend a special Army School.
In the fall of 1945 I was discharged and returned to my job with the department store. I also continued my education at night.
I was moved up – and today I am part of the management team of the store: my position is that of a divisional merchandise manager. I work with 13 department managers, train and supervise them, and have the responsibility for a business in excess of 13 million dollars.
In 1948 I got married; my wife Charlotte, was born in Toledo, Ohio. We now have three children – a girl Marion aged 13, a boy Ralph 10 years old and our youngest Jonathan aged 9. We live in a suburban area of Cincinnati in a one family home. I have a big yard and in Spring and Summer I become a gardener; – growing vegetables; and I am sure Lisbeth would be happy to see how her pupil progressed.“
